BANGKOK, 24 May 2018 – The government of the Kingdom of Thailand further strengthened its officials’ capacities for future ASEAN development projects through a training held on 23-24 May in Bangkok.
The ASEAN Project Development Training for Government Officials of Thailand was hosted by the Department of ASEAN Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. The training was a joint effort of the ASEAN Secretariat, the Permanent Mission of Thailand to ASEAN and the ASEAN Affairs department of Thailand’s foreign ministry.
Ms. Usana Berananda, Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand in Berlin, attached to the Department of ASEAN Affairs, stressed in her opening remarks the continuing need for more projects and initiatives to support the ASEAN community building and contribute to the over-all goals of peaceful, prosperous and people-centred ASEAN. She thanked the ASEAN Secretariat for providing future project proponents in Thailand with better understanding of proposal development, funding application, project implementation and monitoring, and project reporting and completion. Further, Berananda encouraged all participants to actively participate and be involved in Thailand’s chairmanship of ASEAN in 2019.
More than 90 officials representing various ministries and agencies in Thailand participated in the two-day training. It is part of a series of trainings funded by the ASEAN Development Fund to address the lack of awareness among potential proponents in ASEAN Member States, particularly on the available resources, how to access it, and the guidelines on preparing and submitting proposals using prescribed ASEAN project templates. The trainings are also part of the efforts to increase the number of ASEAN initiated projects and the utilisation of available ASEAN Trust and Project Funds.
The Thai officials engaged with the facilitators and appreciated the information and skills provided by the resource persons. They also shared challenges experienced in developing regional project proposals and information on coordination as well as the available network within Thailand.
In the joint closing remarks, Thailand Mission to ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat representatives emphasized the available technical and coordination supports for proponents in developing ASEAN Cooperation projects and encouraged them to make good use of all available resources.
