UAE seeks to strengthen relations with ASEAN
JAKARTA, 11 October 2017— The United Arab Emirates (UAE) expressed its keen interest in strengthening its relations with ASEAN and ASEAN Member States. The message was conveyed by Ambassador of the UAE to ASEAN, Mohammed Abdulla Bin Mutleq AlGhafli, during the presentation of his Letter of Credence to Secretary-General of ASEAN, Le Luong Minh at the ASEAN Secretariat yesterday.
In congratulating Ambassador AlGhafli on his assumption of duty as the Ambassador of the UAE to ASEAN, Secretary-General Minh welcomed the UAE’s interest in enhancing cooperation with ASEAN. He encouraged the UAE to tap further potentials for cooperation in various sectors, including trade and investment, bilaterally and through the ASEAN-GCC framework.
Secretary-General Minh updated Ambassador AlGhafli on the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN. He also briefed him on the progress of ASEAN Community building and the implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 which also includes ASEAN’s aspiration to further advance its relations with external partners.
Further, Secretary-General Minh and Ambassador AlGhafli exchanged views on ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council relations and a number of regional and international issues of common interest.
