HA NOI, 14 October 2022 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Viet Nam hosted the ASEAN Project Development training for Vietnamese government representatives and officials from 12-14 October in Ha Noi.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Vu Ho, Acting SOM Leader and Director-General of ASEAN-Viet Nam, shared that ASEAN and its Member States (AMS) have made continuous efforts in the ASEAN Community building and regional integration under the 2025 ASEAN Community Vision. They are also currently preparing for the Post-2025 Vision.

He further emphasised that there is a general lack of awareness on available funding sources provided by AMS and external partners, and pointed out an urgent need for capacity building in project proposal development at the sectoral body level and AMS in general. Ambassador Ho said he looks forward to more ASEAN-related cooperation project proposals from Viet Nam which will be successfully endorsed and implemented at national and regional levels.

Vietnamese officials from various ministries and government agencies participated in the three-day training. Through presentations, exercises and group work, they were also briefed by ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) staff on developing regional project proposals and managing ASEAN cooperation projects using a results-based management approach.

As the training concluded, participants were able to develop and present seven regional project proposal drafts on; (i) the development of effective and reliable online network system for mutual legal assistance; (ii) restoring the quality and quantity of the tourism labour post COVID-19; (iii) reducing ocean plastic waste; (iv) developing effective and quality media platform for sharing information among AMS; (v) capacity building for senior management level officials of the banking sector; (vi) reducing household waste in CLMV; and (vii) promoting traditional performing arts in ASEAN including water puppetry culture.

The training is a joint effort of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam and ASEC.
