ASEAN’s joint efforts in combating terrorism took another step forward when Viet Nam ratified the ASEAN Convention on Counter-Terrorism (ACCT) on 30 January this year. The Convention is now only one Member State away from entering into force and giving the ASEAN people a more secured region.
Signed in 2007, the Convention aims to enhance counter-terrorism cooperation among ASEAN’s law enforcement and other relevant authorities.
The Convention will enter into force after ratification by six ASEAN Member States. Viet Nam is the fifth to ratify, following Singapore and Thailand, the Philippines and Cambodia. Viet Nam has consequently deposited its instrument of ratification to the Convention with the Secretary General of ASEAN on 24 February 2011.
