KUALA LUMPUR, 6 March 2018 – The Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dato Lim Jock Hoi, yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak at the Parliament House.

Prime Minister Najib congratulated Dato Lim on his assumption of the post of Secretary-General and reaffirmed Malaysia’s continued commitment to ASEAN. The Prime Minister underlined the need to further promote intra-ASEAN trade and investment as well as advocating Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) for an inclusive ASEAN Community. Prime Minister Najib also expressed support for the Secretary-General’s priorities including efforts to strengthen the ASEAN Secretariat.

Secretary-General Dato Lim also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman and Minister of International Trade and Industry Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed. They discussed a wide range of issues, including raising ASEAN awareness among the people and the importance of upholding ASEAN unity and centrality.

The call on the Prime Minister is part of the Secretary-General’s courtesy calls on ASEAN Heads of Government since assuming office in January 2018.
