JOINT STATEMENT
- An ASEAN Photo Editors’ Workshop was held in Kuala Lumpur on 28 November – 1 December, 2004 under the auspices of the ASEAN-COCI (Committee On Culture and Information). The Workshop was opened by Malaysian Deputy Minister of Information, Datuk Zainuddin Maidin.
- The Workshop was attended by 25 participants from all the 10 ASEAN Member Countries (The list of participants is appended).
- At the end of the two-day workshop, the participants declared their intention to set up an arrangement for the voluntary exchange of news pictures. The exchange of pictures will be via e-mail and carried out whenever possible.
- During the interim period, the arrangement shall be coordinated by BERNAMA, which shall submit monthly reports on the picture usage and response by participating media organizations to the ASEAN Secretariat.
- The participants took note that ASEAN TV News Exchange as well as ASEAN News Exchange (ANEX), under which news stories in text and audio-visual forms are exchanged, are already in existence. An arrangement for the exchange of news pictures will therefore complement ANEX.
- The Workshop was held in a most cordial atmosphere in full ASEAN spirit.
