- The AEM-United States Trade Representative (USTR) Consultation was held on 21 August 2023. The Consultation was co-chaired by H.E. Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Trade, Republic of Indonesia, and H.E. Katherine Tai, United States Trade Representative, United States of America (U.S.). The Meeting welcomed H.E. Filipus Nino Pereira, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to the Meeting as an observer.
- The Meeting noted the steady development of the economic relations between ASEAN Member States and the United States. According to ASEAN Statistics’ preliminary data in June 2023, the total two-way merchandise trade reached USD 420.4 billion in 2022, or an increase of 15 per-cent year-on-year. The inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) from the United States into ASEAN was at USD 36.5 billion, or an increase of 3.1 per-cent year-on-year. The United States is ASEAN’s second largest trading partner, and ASEAN’s largest source of foreign direct investment.
