- The Eleventh Meeting of ASEAN and India Tourism Ministers was held on 25 January 2024, in conjunction with the 27th Meeting of ASEAN Tourism Ministers (MATM), in Vientiane, Lao PDR. H.E. Mrs. Suanesavanh VIGNAKET, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of Lao PDR, chaired the Meeting and H.E. Mr. Jayant N.Khobragade, Ambassador of India to ASEAN, as Co-Chairman. The 11th MATM India was preceded by the 31st ASEAN-India Tourism Working Group Meeting on 24 January 2024.
- The Meeting was pleased to note that India’s outbound tourist market was among the fastest-growing markets in the region. The tourism sector is showing positive signs of recovery in 2023 with the Southeast Asia region and India remaining a significant source markets for inbound tourism for each other. India received 651,920 visitors from the ASEAN Member States in 2023. Approximately 3,667,620 Indians travelled to ASEAN countries from January to November 2023.
