Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, met with Minister of Defense of Japan, H.E. Gen Nakatani, on 18 December 2024, in Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Kao commended Japan’s contributions to advancing defence cooperation in ASEAN, particularly through the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus), thereby upholding ASEAN Centrality in the Indo-Pacific region. He also acknowledged Japan’s continued defence capacity-building support through the Vientiane Vision 2.0 and Japan-ASEAN Ministerial Initiative for Enhanced Defence Cooperation (JASMINE).
