Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, received a courtesy call from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative in Indonesia, Mr. Hassan Mohtashami, at the ASEAN Secretariat. They exchanged views on promoting ASEAN’s initiatives on gender equality and the elimination of violence against women in the region, as well as youth development with highlights on ASEAN Youth Development Index. They also reiterated the need for a coordinated response to address violence against women, youth empowerment programmes with girls’ empowerment at the core, and agreed to look for ways on how ASEAN and UNFPA can work more closely to deepen the cooperation.
