Myanmar, 05 April 2018 – Mandalay Regional Consumer Dispute Settlement Body received a consumer complaint that faked soft drinks were manufactured and sold in the market. The Dispute Settlement Body inspected the place and found that the products were not hygienic and used power sugar and dyes without recommendation from the Department of Food and Drug Administration under the Ministry of Health and Sports.
The Body temporarily stopped the business and conferred decision to take action since consumers might be harmful for health. Then, the case was opened FIR (First Investigation Report) at Kyaukse Police Station. Finally, Kyaukse Township level Court imposed decision to give penalty for 15 days of imprisonment and fine totaling around US Dollar 74 (Kyats one lakh) and destroyed the recalled 1000 bottles of soft drinks in accordance with Section 28 (b) of National Food Law.
