JAKARTA, 7 June 2024 – The ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community is proud to announce the release of The ASEAN Issue No. 37, “From Recovery to Resilience.” This edition delves into the remarkable resilience and adaptability demonstrated by ASEAN during the COVID-19 pandemic, which had a significant socio-economic impact on our region.

This edition brings to the forefront the key priorities of Lao PDR as Chair of ASEAN in 2024. Lao Health Minister Bounfeng Phoummalaysith underscores the significance of health resilience strategies in fortifying the region’s capacity to effectively manage future health emergencies.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Minister of Health, Budi G. Sadikin, delves into the interconnections between public health, environmental changes, and climate change. He provides a comprehensive overview of the One Health Initiative, adopted under Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship, and its pivotal role in enhancing multi-sectoral and regional coordination and collaboration.

The World Health Organization provides valuable insights into lessons learned from the pandemic response and the path forward for public health preparedness and governance.
