Estonia expressed its keen interest in pursuing cooperative relationships with ASEAN and ASEAN Member States, including through the framework of the ASEAN-EU relations. This message was conveyed by the first Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to ASEAN Andres Unga as he presented his Letter of Credence to Secretary-General of ASEAN Le Luong Minh at the ASEAN Secretariat yesterday.

In congratulating Ambassador Unga on his assumption of duty as the first Ambassador of Estonia to ASEAN, Secretary-General Minh encouraged and welcomed Estonia’s interest in exploring potential cooperation with ASEAN in support of ASEAN Community building efforts and to contribute towards the promotion of ASEAN-EU relations.

Ambassador Unga emphasised the importance of ASEAN for Estonia in pursuit of its foreign policy towards Asia. He also updated Secretary-General Minh on the assumption by Estonia of the rotating Presidency of the European Union since 1 July 2017. Ambassador Unga highlighted the achievements and experience of Estonia in the field of e-government and cyber security, and expressed the readiness of his country to share its experiences with ASEAN and ASEAN Member States.

Both sides also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest.
